Depending on the service defined, moving boxes are available at the company's head office to help you prepare for your move.

Make sure you only pack what's allowed in the moving boxes: general linen, non-fragile objects or knick-knacks, books, non-breakable and non-fragile kitchen utensils, toys, miscellaneous cellar and storage space.

Be careful not to pack corrosive, explosive or flammable products in moving boxes. If in doubt, ask your company contact for advice.

Mark or number your moving boxes to distinguish them, so you know what's inside when you arrive at your new home, without having to open them. Prepare the layout of your furniture and determine the storage areas in your future home.

Organizing for efficiency

The golden rule of moving is preparation. To pack your belongings efficiently, you need to start by getting organized. By doing this in advance, you can also take stock of what you need and what you no longer want. Sorting out your belongings will help you avoid having to move items that will be left in boxes when you arrive in your new home.

Before you start packing, take a quick look at the main categories of items you'll be moving: clothes, books, toys, crockery... You'll see more clearly what size boxes you need, how many, and in what order. In this respect, always start with the items you need least, so that you're not penalized until the move.

Prepare materials: boxes, tape, labels...

Now you have a clearer idea of how to proceed. But you still need to find the right boxes. The best way to do this is to have boxes of different sizes, which you can adapt according to the objects to be packed: small ones for heavy, fragile objects, large ones for light, bulky items.

For reasons of quality, it's best to opt for movers' boxes. They're usually the right size for everyday items, and easier to store in the truck. There are also specialized boxes for packing wine bottles, crockery (glasses or plates), books and clothes stored in closets...

In addition to cartons, you will also need :
- Adhesive tape for mounting or closing boxes;
- Bubble wrap to protect fragile items;
- Felt-tip pens and labels to indicate what's inside.

Don't hesitate to ask your mover to order your boxes and all the equipment you need for the move.

Filling boxes properly

To make loading easier, make sure you balance the weight of the objects in the boxes. Beware of overloaded boxes, which may collapse under the weight of objects! Also, don't put anything fragile in a box without protecting it against shocks and the risk of crushing. Boxes are stacked in the truck and may move or settle during transport. You need to anticipate this.

Seal and label cartons

On each box, summarize the contents and indicate its destination. This will make it easier for you to find your way around on arrival. When the boxes are ready, you can seal them with adhesive tape. But don't overdo it, or you'll lose too much time unpacking.

Your boxes are ready to move into your new home! But don't forget to keep a few boxes free for moving day. There are always items left to pack on moving day, so it's best to have a spare!
