Questions / Answers

Why is this just a moving estimate?

The price of a move depends on many parameters: type of furniture, accessibility of the home (floors, parking, elevator...), presence of heavy objects such as a piano or an American refrigerator, for example...
That's why online quotes can be risky, and don't allow you to calculate the right price for a move. That's why a Gentlemen du Déménagement will always visit your home to give you the most accurate estimate.

It's your guarantee of getting the best value for money and avoiding any nasty surprises on moving day.

Why do movers' quotes differ?

A removals company, like all companies, must comply with social legislation (declaration of personnel, payment of social security contributions, etc.), as well as transport regulations (transport licenses, driving times, etc.).

Normally, quotations from companies that comply with these obligations will be close.

An abnormally low estimate may conceal certain irregularities with the law. In this case, you may be liable to pay social security contributions for a company that has not done so (find out more).

Les Gentlemen du Déménagement regularly audits its agents to ensure they comply with the law and regulations.

Is the warranty always included in the price quoted by a mover?

The warranty must appear on the quotation.

The amount of the guarantee depends on the value you have declared to the mover. It's important to estimate this value carefully. If it's overestimated, you'll pay more than you need to, and if it's underestimated, you won't be properly compensated in the event of serious damage.

If I organize my move myself, as some movers do, will it cost less?

Some movers let you organize the move yourself, allowing you to choose the means you feel are best suited to the job. You can also place your order directly online.

It's a good idea, especially for the mover...

First of all, this saves the mover from having to make a technical visit to your home.
Secondly, the mover has no obligation of result (i.e. to move you within the allotted time), but only an obligation of means (to provide you with manpower and a vehicle). If these means aren't sufficient, it's the customer's problem. If they have been overestimated, the customer will have paid too much. In any case, it's not in the staff's interest to be overzealous, since they're paid by the hour... You should also be aware that overtime is sold at full price.
Finally, despite their claims, the prices charged by these companies are the same as those charged by conventional removal firms.
